KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 21 (Bernama) -- Police have arrested a local teenager suspected of sexually assaulting a young girl at a mosque in Batang Kali, Hulu Selangor, with a video recording of the incident going viral on social media today.
Hulu Selangor District Police Chief Supt Ahmad Faizal Tahrim said a 19-year-old male was arrested to assist in the investigation and would be brought to the Kuala Kubu Bharu Magistrate's Court tomorrow for a remand application.
He said the department had received a report regarding the video which went viral on social media at 8.19 am today.
"The case is being investigated under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017," he said in a statement today.
Ahmad Faizal also urged members of the public with information regarding the incident to come forward to the nearest police station or contact the Hulu Selangor District Police Headquarters at 03-60651021.
Earlier, CCTV footage circulated on social media showed a male sneaking into the women’s prayer area before hugging a young girl from behind and taking her out of the area.
