NILAI, Feb 26 (Bernama) -- The country's track cycling queen was in a class of her own in the elite women's 1 kilometre (KM) time trial event today when she broke the Asian record for the event and won her second gold medal at the 2025 Asian Track Cycling Championships (ATC) at the National Velodrome here.
In the women's 1 KM time trial final, Izzah clocked 1:06.229 seconds (s) to break the Asian record of 1:07.137s set in the morning's qualifying event.
The silver medal in the event was won by Chinese athlete Luo Shuyan with a time of 1:07.365s while Hwang Hyeongso of South Korea emerged third (1:07.690s).
Commenting on her achievement today, the Sungai Petani rider was very happy with her performance in the 1KM time trial event which she contested for the first time at the ACC.
According to her, the support from all parties including her teammates and coaching staff helped her to win the gold in the event.
"First of all, I feel very happy with the results recorded besides being able to break my PB (personal best record) and the Asian record. I will celebrate this moment of success and continue to improve myself," she told reporters after the race today.
The gold medal won by the 22-year-old athlete today saw her successfully collect a total of two golds, one silver and one bronze respectively in the keirin, team sprint and individual sprint events at this ACC.
Meanwhile, the national youth track cycling squad managed to win a bronze medal today in the individual race event through Intan Nur Irdrisha Abdul Razak, which saw Taiwanese rider Wen Xin Huang took the gold while silver went to Japanese representative Yuka Nishihara.
The national track cycling squad also shone when they won three gold medals today in the 1KM time trial event in the tandem category B via Mohd Khairul Hazwan Wahab-Muhammad Khairul Adha Rasol (coach), Mohamad Yusof Hafizi Shaharuddin (C1) and Ahmad Zharif Ahmad Nazri (C5).
