LOS ANGELES, March 3 (Bernama-dpa) -- The 2025 best picture Oscar has gone to comedy romance "Anora," which centres around a stripper who falls for the son of a Russian oligarch, reported German Press Agency (dpa).
The cast, along with producers Alex Coco, Samantha Quan and director Sean Baker, took to the stage to accept the best picture prize.
Coco said filmmakers need to keep making "independent film," and said he and his wife welcomed "my son in October, the same week we released Anora."
Quan said they made the movie with "very little money, and all of our hearts."
Baker, who also got the nod as best director, said: "I want to thank the Academy for recognising a truly independent film."
He added that it was made with the "blood, sweat and tears" of the crew.
