KUALA LUMPUR, March 5 (Bernama) -- The Sanpoku Revitalization Council will launch the "Sanpoku Bio-Regional Park" in the Sanpoku area of Murakami City, Niigata Prefecture, northeastern Japan, in May, offering visitors an immersive experience in the region's unique natural environment.

Known for its biodiversity, the park will highlight coastal erosion, Japan’s traditional fishing methods, and renowned natural spring waters.

The region stretching from Kuwagawa to Ogoto and Fuya in the Sanpoku area of Murakami City is now being developed as a bio-regional park, preserving the deep-rooted relationship between nature and the local community, according to a statement.

To provide an enriching experience, the council will introduce three tour courses, namely Blue Tourism, Green Tourism, and Forest Tourism to fully immerse visitors in this unique environment.

In Blue Tourism, visitors will be able to observe the nationally designated scenic spot and natural monument of the Sasagawa Nagare coastline, stretching 11 kilometres, which is renowned for its dramatic landscapes, featuring rock formations, caves, and cliffs shaped by the sea's erosion.

Meanwhile, in Green Tourism, visitors can enjoy the natural waters of Kichijou Shimizu and Karei-zan Shimizu in the deep mountains, where mountainous areas directly connect to the sea, creating a rich and diverse natural environment.

In Forest Tourism, visitors can experience “Kodo fishing”, a traditional method passed down for over 350 years in the Okawa River. It is a unique and historical fishing technique seen nowhere else in Japan, where the riverside becomes lively with local fishermen eagerly anticipating the return of salmon during peak fishing season.
