KUALA LUMPUR, March 13 (Bernama) -- Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd (Rapid Rail), the operator of the Kelana Jaya Line service, has confirmed a technical glitch on train number 84 at Abdullah Hukum station yesterday.
However, no injuries were reported in the incident.
In a statement today, Rapid Rail said the incident, which went viral on social media, occurred at 10.43 pm and was caused by a malfunction in the train's power collector assembly component.
"As a result of the incident, there was a small plume of smoke and a loud noise.
"The transit officer on duty onboard the train acted swiftly in accordance with standard operating procedures by instructing all passengers to disembark at Abdullah Hukum station, while an alternative train service was activated to allow passengers to continue their journey to their destinations," the statement read.
The statement also said that the faulty train was sent back to the maintenance depot for further investigation.
"In order to prevent a recurrence, Rapid Rail engineers have enhanced inspections on all trains operating on the Kelana Jaya Line to ensure the reliability and safety of the train service remains at an optimal level.
"In addition, increased monitoring is being conducted by transit officers, especially onboard trains during peak hours," it added.
Meanwhile, Rapid Rail apologised for the inconvenience experienced by passengers during the incident and assured that continuous improvements would be made to ensure safe, comfortable, and smooth journeys for Rapid KL passengers.
