SEOUL, Jan 21 (Bernama-Yonhap) -- The government said Wednesday it will provide US$500,000 in funds through the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in response to the humanitarian crisis stemming from the territorial dispute between Cambodia and Thailand, Yonhap News Agency reported.

"The government hopes the humanitarian aid could ease difficulties felt by residents near the conflict area and help them quickly return to their normal lives," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

More than 500,000 people have been displaced along the border of Thailand and Cambodia, after a long-standing territorial dispute between the two countries escalated into an armed conflict last year.

International support, including the removal of landmines, has been underway, following an immediate ceasefire between the two countries in early December.
