KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 30 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Football League (MFL) today announced the appointment of Mohd Shazli Shaik Mohd as chief executive officer (CEO) effective Feb 1, thus confirming the position he has held since March last year.

In a statement, MFL informed that Mohd Shazli has served as chief operating officer (COO) since 2018 and has extensive experience in the local football ecosystem, including holding several important positions before.

Mohd Shazli previously served as the MFL CEO since March 3 last year and has extensive experience in football management, particularly in ensuring the smooth operation of competitions and secretariat affairs for the national professional league.

MFL president, Datuk Ab Ghani Hassan meanwhile hoped that the selection of Mohd Shazli could strengthen the governing body of the country's professional league in line with the strategic direction of the Malaysia League (M-League).

"The experience and commitment shown by Mohd Shazli throughout his time with MFL, especially during his time as acting CEO, has given confidence to the MFL Board of Directors that he is the right individual to lead this organisation," he said in a statement.

Mohd Shazli is a former Penang youth player and was the head of the Football Malaysia Limited Liability Partnership (FMLLP) Competition Unit from 2015 to 2018.

In addition, he led the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) Competition Unit from 2013 to 2014, was the head of the Football Unit of the National Football Development Programme (NFDP) of the National Sports Council (MSN) from 2010 to 2012, and was involved in the management of the national squad and FAM competitions between 2003 and 2006.
