JELEBU, Feb 4 (Bernama) -- The large-scale slope repair project along the Very High Frequency (VHF) Telapak Buruk route here is among the government’s key measures to ensure the safety of the country’s strategic infrastructure and the continuity of technical access, including in remote areas.

Pintas Utama Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Marhalim Mohamed said the company, as the main contractor for the project, is responsible for carrying out slope repair works along the route to reduce the risk of landslides and ensure continued maintenance access to communication facilities.

“Failure to address slope risks in the area is not merely a technical issue but could also trigger significant cascading impacts.

“The failure to identify high-risk slopes along this route could create a domino effect with direct consequences for security communication systems and the local digital network,” he said in a statement to Bernama after the project’s inauguration here today.

The project was officiated by Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, who also conducted an official visit to several completed slope project sites along the VHF route and observed firsthand the methods used for slope repair works.

Earlier, Nanta, in his speech at the handover ceremony for the project, expressed his appreciation and gratitude to Pintas Utama for carrying out its responsibilities with dedication and effectiveness.

“Well done and thank you to contractor Pintas Utama for its high level of commitment and continuous efforts in ensuring that this project was completed according to the prescribed standards and timeline,” he said.

The slope repair project, implemented by the Public Works Department (JKR) and which began on Nov 24, 2022, was fully completed on Oct 14, 2025, at a cost of RM109 million. The project comprised 36 Work Orders covering 124 locations along an 11-kilometre stretch, involving high-, medium- and low-risk slopes.

Meanwhile, Marhalim said that in the event of a slope failure, maintenance access to communication towers would be disrupted, resulting in unforeseen recovery costs and disruptions to critical digital services vital to the economy and surrounding communities.

The project handover ceremony today symbolised the strong commitment of Negeri Sembilan and Seremban district JKR, along with contractor Pintas Utama, to prioritising slope infrastructure safety at locations of strategic importance to the national economy and local communities.
