PASIR MAS, Feb 12 (Bernama) -- High-security wire, also known as Concertina wire, has been installed around illegal bases along the Malaysia-Thailand border near the Sungai Golok riverbank to curb cross-border crimes.
Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said phase one of the operation was implemented at the illegal base from the Rantau Panjang town to Pos Ibrahim Pencen, spanning 1.5 kilometres.
"This barbed wire will be installed at 26 illegal bases previously demolished by security agencies.
"The Prime Minister's Department's Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU JPM) has approved RM100,000 for this project,” he told reporters after inspecting the Concertina wire installed at the Rantau Panjang illegal base here today.
Also present were Southeast Brigade General Operations Force (GOF) Commander SAC Ahmad Radzi Hussain and Kelantan National Security Council (MKN) director Datuk Mohd A. Aruwan Ab Aziz.
Elaborating, Mohd Yusoff said the next phase of this project would be completed in stages, and installation works are expected to be completed before Ramadan.
