KUCHING, March 3 (Bernama) -- AirBorneo, Sarawak’s state-owned full-service airline, has introduced online check-in for all routes operated by its ATR turboprop fleet, further enhancing convenience for passengers across East Malaysia.
The airline said the new service allows passengers to check in digitally, select preferred seats and obtain an electronic boarding pass before arriving at the airport, reducing waiting time and improving travel efficiency.
Online check-in is available for eligible bookings, including individual travellers, families and group passengers on routes served by AirBorneo’s ATR 72-500 aircraft.
“Passengers travelling with checked baggage may proceed directly to the baggage drop counter upon arrival at the airport, significantly streamlining pre-departure procedures,” the airline said in a statement yesterday.
AirBorneo chief executive officer Megat Ardian Wira Mohd Aminuddin said the introduction of online check-in across the airline ATR network marks an important step in the airline’s digital transformation.
“While we are committed to modernising our services, we are equally mindful that many of the communities we serve, particularly in rural and remote areas may have limited internet connectivity.
“This enhancement provides added convenience for those who are able to access it, while we continue to maintain full airport counter services to ensure no passenger is left behind. Our priority remains delivering reliable, inclusive and people-centric connectivity for Sarawak,” he said.
Passengers can access the online check-in service via the airline’s official website using their booking reference number and surname.
The service opens 48 hours before departure and closes 90 minutes prior to take-off.
For flights operated by the DHC-6-400 Twin Otter aircraft, check-in will continue to be conducted at airport counters to ensure operational readiness and provide assistance at remote airstrips.
