HOCKEY WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS: SPEEDY TIGERS LOSE 1-7 TO ENGLAND

KUALA LUMPUR, March 6 (Bernama) -- Malaysia failed to advance to the finals of the 2026 Hockey World Cup qualifiers when they lost 1-7 to England in the semifinal match in Ismailia, Egypt today.

The national squad still has a chance to qualify for the 2026 World Cup as the three best overall teams  from the qualifers will get a slot, and will take on either Pakistan or Japan tomorrow for the third and fourth place decider.

England dominated today’s match against Malaysia, scoring four goals through Sam Ward (penalty corner, 19’), Samuel Hooper (penalty corner, 36’), Thomas Sorsby (field goal 42’), and Stuart Rushmere (43’) before Malaysia managed to reply through a field goal by Faizal Saari in the 50th minute.

England then completed their rout when Zachary Wallace scored through a penalty corner in the 54th minute, Rushmere scored his second personal goal in the 59th minute and Hooper ended the match with the seventh goal in the 60th minute.
