AWALAN, MOHD SUMALI NAMED CDM FOR COMMONWEALTH GAMES, ASIAD

KUALA LUMPUR, March 14 (Bernama) -- The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) has appointed Malaysia Lawn Bowls Federation president Datuk Awalan Abdul Aziz and Sepaktakraw Association of Malaysia president Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan as Chef de Mission (CDM) for the national contingents to the 23rd Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2026 and the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026, respectively.

In a statement today, OCM also announced the appointment of Taekwondo Malaysia (WT) president Azizul Annuar Adenan and Malaysia Boxing Federation president Datuk Mohamad Iruan Zulkefli as joint CDM representing East Malaysia and West Malaysia, respectively, for the 34th SEA Games Malaysia 2027.

OCM further named Datuk Chong Kim Fatt as CDM for the 6th Asian Beach Games Sanya 2026, while former national wushu exponent Wong Weng Son will lead the Malaysian contingent to the IV Youth Olympic Games Dakar 2026.

“Following the proposal made during the OCM Executive Board Meeting No. 5 (2025-2029) on Tuesday (March 10), OCM has obtained the acceptance and endorsement of Minister of Youth and Sports Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari for the appointment of the CDM for the Malaysian contingents to the multi-sport Games,” it added.

Meanwhile, OCM president Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria expressed hope that the appointed CDM will discharge their duties and responsibilities to ensure the successful participation of the Malaysian contingents in the forthcoming multi-sport Games.

The Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2026 will take place from July 23 to Aug 2, while the Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 are scheduled from Sept 19 to Oct 4.

Meanwhile, the SEA Games Malaysia 2027 will be held from Sept 18 to 29; the Asian Beach Games Sanya 2026 from April 22 to 30; and the Youth Olympic Games Dakar 2026 from Oct 31 to Nov 13.
