ACC 2026: MALAYSIAN PARA CYCLISTS SHINE WITH THREE GOLDS

KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 (Bernama) -- The national para track cycling squad stamped their mark by clinching three gold medals on the third day of the 2026 Asian Track Cycling Championships (ACC) at the Tagaytay City Velodrome in the Philippines today.

National para track cycling ace Mohamad Yusof Hafizi Shaharuddin delivered a powerful ride to win gold in the men’s C1 (physical impairment) 1-kilometre (km) time trial with a time of 1 minute 14.090 seconds (s).

Mohamad Yusof fended off his closest challenger, Seok Hojin of South Korea, who took silver (1:18.468s), while Saudi Arabia’s Abas Alhashim secured bronze (1:20.021s).

Malaysia's winning momentum continued in the men’s C5 (physical impairment) 1km time trial, with riders Zuhairie Ahmad Tarmizi and Ahmad Zharif Ahmad Nazri taking gold and silver respectively.

Zuhairie clocked 1:05.992s, followed by Ahmad Zharif in 1:07.061s, while Japan’s Ruito Kameda completed the podium with bronze (1:08.206s).

Malaysia's third gold was delivered by Nur Suraiya Muhamad Zamri, together with pilot Farina Shawati Mohd Adnan, in the women’s B (visual impairment) 1km time trial after recording 1:11.291s.

Silver went to compatriots Nur Azlia Syafinaz Mohd Zais-Nurul Suhada Zainal (1:13.991s), while Kazakhstan’s Zhuldyz Kainarova-Anzhela Solovyela took bronze (1:14.093s).

In the men’s event, Malaysian pairs Mohd Khairul Hazwan Wahab-Muhammad Khairul Adha Rasol (1:04.928s) and Ahmad Ahlami Mohamad-Ahmad Safwan Ahmad Nazeri (1:05.186s) claimed silver and bronze respectively.

Japan’s Kazuhei Kimura-Riku Inoue won gold with a time of 1:03.039s.

The ACC 2026, which began last Wednesday, will conclude on March 31.
