ANKARA, March 28 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- The Iranian Atomic Energy Organisation said Saturday that a projectile struck the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant in what it described as the third attack on the facility, with no reported casualties or damage, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported.
“A projectile hit the power plant site at 12.40 PM on Friday, but no casualties, financial or technical damage was reported,” it said on X.
It described it as part of repeated attacks, referring to it as the “third attack” on the facility.
The organisation also labelled those responsible as the “criminal American-Zionist enemy,” while emphasising that the plant is a peaceful nuclear facility.
It said that “attacking peaceful nuclear facilities is a clear violation of international law and a serious threat to regional security.”
No further details were provided about the type of projectile or the extent of the impact on the site.
The Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant is Iran’s only operational nuclear power facility and plays a central role in its civilian energy program.
Hostilities in the region have escalated since the United States (US) and Israel launched a joint offensive against Iran on Feb 28.
Tehran has retaliated with waves of drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, inflicting casualties and infrastructure damage, while disrupting global markets and aviation.
