KUALA LUMPUR, April 6 (Bernama) -- The contributions and service of former transport minister and MCA honorary life president Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik will long be remembered, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said.
Fahmi said he shared a close relationship with Dr Ling and his family, who were his neighbours while he was growing up in Bukit Damansara, here.
“I was especially close to his son, Keat. I feel that the late Tun rendered immense service to the nation,” he said when met by reporters after paying his last respects at the Xiao En Centre here today.
Dr Ling died on Saturday at the age of 82. He is survived by his wife Toh Puan Ong Ee Nah and their two sons, Ling Hee Leong and Ling Hee Keat.
Fahmi, who is also the MADANI Government spokesperson, said Cabinet members today reflected on the former MCA president's years of service.
“We understand that what we are doing today is an effort to continue what was started earlier, including by Tun.
“I hope the family remains strong and patient in facing this difficult time,” he said.
Dr Ling was among the longest-serving Cabinet members, having helmed the Transport Ministry for 17 years from 1986 until his resignation in 2003.
