SHAH ALAM, April 6 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Industry‑Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) and Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad (PNSB) today inked a Memorandum of Collaboration (MoC) to further accelerate high‑tech industry development and attract strategic investments to Selangor.

Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) secretary-general Datuk Dr K. Nagulendran said the initiative is expected to strengthen Selangor’s industrial ecosystem by empowering local value chains, nurturing highly skilled talent and improving coordination between policy and implementation.

“Collaborations like this are crucial to ensure that the country’s science, technology and innovation agenda is translated into tangible economic outcomes.

“This approach links strategic planning with on-the-ground implementation and industry needs, thereby accelerating technology transfer and boosting the commercialisation of innovations,” he said in a statement here today.

He also said the collaboration places emphasis on the development of a high-impact, results-oriented science, technology and innovation (STI) ecosystem in line with current industry needs.

At the same time, Nagulendran said MIGHT would drive three primary clusters, namely aerospace, shipbuilding and ship repair (SBSR) and life sciences, with plans to establish a related hub in Bukit Beruntung.

Meanwhile, MIGHT president and chief executive officer Rushdi Abdul Rahim said that the collaboration reflected MIGHT’s shift from acting as an advisory body to becoming a strategic implementing partner in driving the country’s industrial development.

“This more proactive approach focuses on translating strategic plans into high-impact investments and innovations,” he said.

He said that the country’s aerospace sector had shown a significant recovery, with revenue rising from RM11.6 billion in 2020 to RM25.1 billion in 2024, while the SBSR industry is now ranked 16th globally and moving towards green and digital technologies.

Earlier, Nagulendran, together with Selangor Investment, Trade and Mobility Committee chairman Ng Sze Han, witnessed the signing of the MoC between MIGHT and PNSB at the MIGHT Hub Partnership Building in Cyberjaya.

He said that the ceremony also saw the launch of the Malaysia Smart City Outlook 2026-2030 report, which outlines priorities for developing smart cities in an inclusive, sustainable, and resilient manner.

Meanwhile, Ng said that the Selangor government welcomed the collaboration, particularly as it aligns with the state’s aspiration to strengthen its position as a high-tech industrial hub and a centre for high-impact investments.

“The initiative is expected to attract quality investments, generate highly skilled job opportunities and strengthen local talent development and supply chains in line with the state’s sustainable economic growth agenda.

“The collaboration is anticipated to strengthen Selangor’s position as a strategic industrial hub and contribute to efforts to establish Malaysia as a globally competitive high-tech innovation centre,” he said.
