JAKARTA, April 14 (Bernama) -- Indonesia plans to purchase oil from Russia, with PT Pertamina set to follow government directives and regulations on the matter.

Pertamina Vice President of Corporate Communication Muhammad Baron said the initiative is currently still being explored at the government level.

“As a state-owned enterprise managing national energy, Pertamina will follow up in accordance with the directives and regulations set,” he said according to ANTARA News Agency, on Tuesday.

Baron said Pertamina remains open to various cooperation opportunities to ensure the resilience and sustainability of national energy supply.

On the compatibility of Russian crude oil for processing at Pertamina’s refineries, he said the company would conduct further studies.

“We will study the type of crude oil. With refinery modernisation, it is expected that Pertamina’s refineries will have the flexibility to process various types of crude in the future,” he said.

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, along with his delegation — including Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia — was in Russia on April 13, and held a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Among others, the meeting discussed energy cooperation, including in refinery development, strengthening oil trade, and enhancing the utilisation of energy technology.
