DECISION ON SELANGOR SUKMA 2026 TO BE MADE END OF APRIL - MOHAMMED TAUFIQ

22/04/2026 10:45 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, April 22 (Bernama) -- Any decision regarding the organisation of the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Selangor will only be known after a special committee meeting scheduled for April 30, said Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari.

Dr Mohammed Taufiq said he is currently awaiting an official notification letter and feedback on the proposed postponement of SUKMA Selangor 2026 from the host state.

“Any decision involving SUKMA must be made collectively. Not only the Youth and Sports Ministry, but also the SUKMA Supreme Committee, executive members from all states in Malaysia, the National Sports Council, State Sports Councils, the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM), and other bodies, so that we can make a joint decision.

“Insya’Allah, if there are no obstacles, perhaps on April 30 we will discuss together the way forward and what should be taken into consideration regarding the organisation of SUKMA,” he said.

He said this after the launch of the High Performance Centre Building and the National Sports Talent Development Plan (MYTP) document at the National Sports Institute (ISN) here today.

Last Monday, the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah decreed that the Selangor SUKMA 2026 should be postponed due to the current global supply crisis and until the redevelopment of the Shah Alam Stadium is fully completed.

Meanwhile, commenting on the launch of the High Performance Centre Building and MYTP, Dr Mohammed Taufiq said the facilities and modules introduced will help prepare athletes for major events, especially when Malaysia host the SEA Games next year.

“We see that this High Performance Centre is not just a building, but is equipped with advanced technologies to ensure athlete and sports development in our country is on the right track.

“We also use the MYTP document as a reference or module to ensure athlete development is properly guided,” he said.
