SINGAPORE, April 27 (Bernama) --  Singapore has reaffirmed its commitment to ASEAN’s collective efforts in strengthening energy resilience amid the ongoing global energy crisis at the Special ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) on Monday.

Minister of State for Trade and Industry Gan Siow Huang said the evolving situation in West Asia underscores the critical importance of regional cooperation in strengthening and advancing energy resilience.

"Singapore will continue to work closely with ASEAN Member States to strengthen preparedness, diversify energy sources, and advance regional energy integration.

"Together, we will work to safeguard the region’s energy security and economic stability in these challenging times," she said in a statement issued by the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) on Monday.

The AMEM convened virtually on April 27, chaired by Secretary of the Department of Energy of the Philippines Sharon S. Garin to discuss the impact of the evolving situation in West Asia on regional and global energy security.

MTI said the meeting emphasised the urgency of coordinated regional action amid geopolitical developments in West Asia, which pose risks to energy markets and supply chains, particularly oil and gas.

It noted that the discussion also focused on advancing energy resilience through diversification of energy sources, accelerating renewable energy deployment, and exploring emerging technologies.

"ASEAN Ministers reaffirmed their collective responsibility to safeguard regional energy security through strengthened cooperation, timely policy responses, and engagement with dialogue partners.

"They highlighted the importance of maintaining secure and open sea lanes to ensure the uninterrupted flow of energy supplies, which are critical for regional economic stability," it said.

According to MTI, the meeting concluded with a unified ASEAN position to enhance energy security and resilience through regional cooperation and coordination.
