PAHANG REQUESTS FOR IMMEDIATE DECISION ON CHANGE OF 2026 SUKMA VENUES

KUANTAN, May 5 (Bernama) -- The Pahang state government has requested for immediate decisions regarding any change in the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) competition venues in Selangor to avoid additional costs due to early reservations made.

Pahang Communications and Multimedia, Youth, Sports and Non-governmental organisations Committee chairman Fadzli Mohamad Kamal said the request was made as the organisers decided not to have an athlete village and the proposed change of competition venues from private owned facilities to public sports facilities.

“We hope the host can provide immediate feedback as accommodations have been booked. If there are changes to venues, it will incur additional costs that need to be rearranged,” he told reporters at the 2023/2024 Pahang Sports Awards ceremony at Sultan Ahmad Shah Silver Jubilee Hall here today.

He said any change in competition locations will have an additional financial implication on the state government that will send a 1,000 member strong contingent, including over 700 athletes.

Fadzli also expressed hope that all events agreed upon for 2026 SUKMA will be retained to avoid losses to athletes and state contingents that have prepared for over two years.

He said that Pahang’s target for the Games was still being fine-tuned with Pahang contingent chief  Khaizulnizam Mohd Zuldin, who was assessting the performance of each sport.

“The target is there, we have yet to announce it. The contingent chief will go to all training centres for a more accurate picture as there are events that we are not competing in this time around,” he said.
