KUCHING, May 7 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak State Education Department (JPN Sarawak) has initiated an internal investigation to examine compliance with safety aspects at a secondary school in Daro following an incident in which a student died from electrocution yesterday.
JPN Sarawak, in a statement, said the incident was also under investigation by the authorities.
“The area where the incident occurred has been cordoned off. Students, teachers and the entire school community are prohibited from approaching the area until it is confirmed to be safe,” the statement said.
JPN Sarawak also extended its condolences to the family of the deceased Form Four student, Fahrin Jumandy Abdullah.
“JPN Sarawak’s focus at this time is to provide the best possible assistance to the family of the late Fahrin Jumandy.
“At the same time, JPN Sarawak is also ensuring the welfare of another student who is currently receiving treatment. We pray for his speedy recovery,” the statement added.
Matu Daro District Police chief DSP Rahim Mihos was reported as saying that a Form Four student died while another Form Three student was seriously injured after they were believed to have suffered electric shocks while attempting to perform ablution at a secondary school in Daro, Mukah Division, yesterday.
Rahim said police received information from the school regarding the incident at about 8 pm when three male students were at the ablution area.
The Form Three student who sustained serious injuries was rushed to Daro Hospital before being referred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Sibu Hospital.
