CYBERJAYA, May 15 (Bernama) -- Cyberview Sdn Bhd (Cyberview) reaffirmed its commitment to promoting holistic workplace wellbeing through the organisation of World Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Day X Cyberjaya Healthcare AI and Innovation Network (CHAIN) 2026, held in conjunction with World OSH Day observed annually in April.
Held at RekaScape here recently, the event carried the theme 'From Healthy Minds to Thriving Workplaces', highlighting the growing importance of mental wellbeing as a key pillar of occupational health and safety in today’s evolving work environment.
Cyberview chief executive officer Kamarul Ariffin Abd Samad said leadership should prioritise employee wellbeing alongside organisational performance and results.
"Leadership is not only about driving performance or delivering results. It begins with asking a more important question: Are our people okay? Because without wellbeing, nothing else is sustainable.
"Mental health challenges are not weaknesses. They are signals that something requires attention, care or change," he said in a statement today.
Kamarul said stress, burnout and anxiety must be treated with the same urgency as physical workplace safety.
He said technology should complement, rather than replace, human care and empathy in healthcare transformation efforts.
"Through CHAIN, Cyberview continues to serve as a catalyst for collaboration among organisations, healthcare providers, innovators and the wider community to embed wellbeing into workplace culture.
"Our goal is simple, to move beyond awareness and towards building workplaces that are genuinely supportive, resilient and sustainable for the long term," he said.
Meanwhile, National Centre of Excellence of Mental Health (NCEMH) Cyberjaya psychology officer (counselling) Nurul Husna Abdul Rahim, cited World Health Organisation data from 2024, estimating that depression and anxiety contribute to the loss of more than 12 billion working days globally each year, resulting in nearly RM4 trillion in lost productivity.
She also pointed to findings from the National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS) 2023, which estimated that one million Malaysians aged 16 and above were experiencing depression, double the figure recorded in 2019.
"Mental health challenges did not begin with the pandemic, but COVID-19 brought them to the surface, often in isolation and without adequate support.
"If these trends continue unchecked, the impact on individuals, workplaces and productivity will only intensify," she said.
Nurul Husna said sustained awareness, early intervention and collaborative platforms such as OSH Day X CHAIN are essential to reducing stigma and fostering healthier psychosocial work environments.
The full-day programme featured a panel discussion titled 'Good Psychosocial Work Environments for Thriving Workers', which explored ways organisations can better support employees in navigating workplace challenges.
The programme brought together healthcare innovators, university students and members of the community to encourage dialogue on occupational safety, health and mental wellbeing.
The event also featured 10 exhibitors comprising healthcare start-ups, wellness providers and technology companies, reflecting Cyberview’s emphasis on collaboration and innovation in building sustainable wellbeing ecosystems.
