MOSCOW, May 15 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- India supports a reform of the United Nations and the inclusion of Asian, African and Latin American nations in the UN Security Council, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said on Friday, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.
"Without meaningful reform, including expansion in both permanent and non-permanent categories, the effectiveness and credibility of the UN will remain constrained. Representation of Asia, Africa, and Latin America is essential," Jaishankar said.
A reform of the UN and its subsidiary bodies remains a central task, and, despite a significant increase in the organisation's membership and the expansion of its responsibilities, key institutions, particularly the Security Council, no longer reflect modern realities, Jaishankar added.
New Delhi consistently advocates for a form of multipolarity that reflects current global realities and the aspirations of developing and emerging-market countries, the Indian foreign minister added.
