JEMPOL, May 23 (Bernama) -- The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) is targeting the attendance of 5,000 visitors for the three-day Jualan Agro MADANI Mega@PTKM Palong programme, which began yesterday and will run until tomorrow at the Pasar Tani Kekal (PTKM) Palong here.

FAMA said in a statement today that the large-scale programme, held from 8 am to 10 pm, offers savings of between 10 and 30 per cent through a direct-from-producer-to-consumer sales concept without middlemen.

For this Mega@PTKM Palong edition, six main clusters have been prepared, comprising the state’s popular food cluster, food trucks, fresh produce sales, food and agro-based industry products, floriculture, as well as agency exhibitions.

“Among the main attractions of the programme are special combo sales at promotional prices and happy hour sessions offering substantial savings to consumers.

“FAMA hopes the programme will continue to strengthen the national food security agenda, help ease the people’s cost of living burden, and serve as the best platform to promote local agricultural produce and agro-food products to the community,” the statement said.

Among the fresh combo sales offered are chicken, vegetables and eggs priced as low as RM5 during 'happy hour' compared with the original price of RM20, while meat combos, grocery combos and Agromas products are also being sold at specially subsidised prices throughout the programme.

Registered visitors are also eligible to receive RM5 purchase coupons for fresh produce purchases, subject to the stipulated conditions.

According to the agency, the programme involves the participation of 42 entrepreneurs with a total of 52 sales lots covering food segments, fresh produce, floriculture, agro-based industry products and food trucks.

The organisation of the programme is expected to increase entrepreneurs’ income by up to 10 per cent through the direct-to-consumer sales concept, while further strengthening the marketing network for local agro-food products.

In addition, visitors can also participate in various activities such as colouring competitions, artiste performances, children’s games, lucky draws, traditional sports and family interactive activities.

The Jualan Agro MADANI programme is an initiative under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM), implemented by FAMA in collaboration with agencies under the ministry, including the Farmers’ Organisation Authority (LPP) and the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM).

The programme is a rebranding of the Jualan Terus Dari Ladang (JTDL) concept aimed at helping the public obtain fresh food supplies and basic necessities at lower prices compared with the current market rates.

Throughout last year, the implementation of Jualan Agro MADANI recorded a total of 4,695 programmes nationwide, generating sales value exceeding RM101 million and consumer savings amounting to RM30.30 million.

The programme also benefited more than 6.89 million consumers and involved nearly 75,000 local entrepreneurs.
