SHAH ALAM, June 18 (Bernama) -- Brunei has confirmed its participation in the 2026 Selangor Malaysia Games (SUKMA), scheduled to be held from Aug 15-24.
Selangor Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi said this was confirmed during his courtesy call on Brunei Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Shamhary Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha in Bandar Seri Begawan today.
“Brunei has agreed to send a number of its athletes to the Selangor SUKMA as a symbol of our countries’ close friendship and in support of efforts to develop young athletes in both nations.
“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary his support, thereby completing the participation of 15 contingents in the Selangor SUKMA,” he said in a statement today.
Also present during the visit were Datuk Mohd Yazid Sairi, the chief executive officer of the 22nd SUKMA and Para SUKMA Selangor Secretariat, and Mohamad Nizam Marjugi, the chief operating officer of the Secretariat.
Mohd Najwan, who is also the chairman of the Organising Committee for the 2026 Selangor SUKMA and Para SUKMA, said that Brunei’s participation as an invited contingent is expected to improve the quality of competition and strengthen regional friendship and cooperation, while further fueling the long-standing spirit of goodwill.
The 2026 Selangor SUKMA will feature 469 events across 37 sports at 52 competition venues in nine districts throughout Selangor, as well as the National Velodrome in Negeri Sembilan. This will be followed by the Sept 5-10 Para SUKMA, which will have nearly 300 events across 10 sports.
