SHAH ALAM, June 19 (Bernama) -- The Selangor government today unveiled Phase Two of the Selangor Resilience Strengthening Package, introducing 15 initiatives worth RM209.26 million as part of a strategic response to cushion the impact of the global energy crisis triggered by developments in West Asia.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the package goes beyond direct financial assistance and focuses on broader economic empowerment measures to ensure the state’s revenue continues to benefit all segments of society.

He said the package was formulated after the state government assessed the effects of global economic uncertainty on key sectors in Selangor, particularly logistics, manufacturing and construction.

Citing data from the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO), Amirudin said a total of 10,869 Selangor residents lost their jobs between January and May this year.

Of that number, 2,549 individuals or 23.45 per cent were from the retail sector, while 2,316 individuals or 21.3 per cent were from manufacturing.

“If we look deeper into the figure of 10,869 individuals, around 40 per cent were management and professional-level employees, while the remainder comprised technicians, sales personnel and machinery operators.

“This situation has prompted the state government to safeguard the retail sector and provide transition opportunities for affected workers to venture into entrepreneurship, while also improving their capabilities and skills,” he said when presenting the package, known as Pakej Pengukuhan Daya Tahan Selangor, during the special sitting of the State Legislative Assembly today.

Among the initiatives announced are rental reductions for Local Authority premises with an allocation of RM4.5 million, the Selangor Penyayang Project (RM14 million), Selangor Advance (SA500) (RM100 million), Entrepreneur Quick Fund Financing (RM20 million), the Selangor Entrepreneur Recovery Initiative and PLATS Career Transition (RM4 million).

Others include the Selangor Career Programme (RM1.5 million), Selangor Agropreneur Assistance (RM6 million), Selangor Smart Rent Moratorium (RM2.22 million), State Government Housing Loan Moratorium (RM2.54 million), Selangor Farmer Resilience Financing (RM7 million), Selangor Scholarship (RM17 million), Teraju IKTISASS (RM20 million), Mama Kerja (RM5 million) and a 100 per cent Assessment Tax Rebate (RM5.5 million).

“In total, RM209.26 million has been allocated for Phase Two, while programmes under Phase One involve expenditure of RM145.8 million.

“This brings the overall allocation for the Selangor Resilience Strengthening Package under both phases to RM355.06 million,” he said.

Amirudin also called on all parties to strengthen cooperation and remain united to ensure Selangor’s economy continues to remain competitive and resilient amid global economic uncertainty.

“We need collaboration and solidarity among all levels of society. This is not the time for division or unnecessary hostility.

“This is the moment for us to stand together and ensure that the solutions implemented are not for the government or the Menteri Besar, but for the continued resilience and prosperity of Selangor,” he said.
