KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 (Bernama) -- Junior Cycling Malaysia (JCM) will introduce international guest team entries in several upcoming series as a key step in the development of the nation’s cycling, the National Sports Council (MSN) said.
In a statement today, MSN said the initiative is expected to raise competitive standards among local athletes while providing broader exposure for the nation’s young riders to compete against foreign athletes in an international‑standard competitive environment.
“Among the countries identified to receive invitations are Thailand, Indonesia, South Korea and Saudi Arabia,” the statement said.
It said the move is part of JCM’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its role as the primary platform for developing the nation’s cycling talent by organising more competitive, high‑impact events.
The statement also said JCM is committed to expanding participation from cycling clubs nationwide because it believes this will strengthen the local cycling development ecosystem while opening up broad opportunities for new talent to be showcased through well‑structured, high‑quality competition platforms.
To date, JCM had organised four race series between January and June this year, comprising two track events at the National Velodrome in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan and two road races in Langkawi, Kedah and Jeli, Kelantan.
“The organisation of those events received an encouraging response, attracting 71 entries from cycling clubs and teams nationwide. It also reflects the cycling community’s confidence in JCM as an effective and relevant platform for developing feeder athletes,” the statement said.
For the remainder of the 2026 calendar, several major race series will continue, including JCM Road Race Series 3 to 6 in Rompin (Pahang), Negeri Sembilan, Kangar (Perlis) and Sungai Besar (Selangor).
In addition, the JCM Track Grand Finale will be held at the National Velodrome from Nov 12 to 15 before the 2026 season concludes with the JCM Road Grand Finale 2026 in Langkawi from Nov 30 to Dec 3.
JCM is a cycling development programme officially launched in March 2016 under the Ministry of Youth and Sports and overseen by MSN.
