MUKAH, June 25 (Bernama) -- Police arrested a male foreign worker suspected of injuring an auxiliary policeman with a machete at a palm oil plantation along Jalan Sebakong yesterday afternoon.

Mukah District police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said that authorities detained the 39-year-old suspect and seized a 53-centimetre machete after receiving a report of the incident at 6 pm.

“Preliminary investigations found that the incident occurred at 4.40 pm after a worker informed the victim that the suspect was causing a disturbance near the workers’ quarters while carrying a machete.

“The 45-year-old auxiliary police officer rushed to the scene and attempted to defuse the situation, but the suspect suddenly swung the machete, injuring the victim in the neck,” he said in a statement today.

Muhamad Rizal said that the victim received 12 stitches to his neck and was treated as an outpatient at Mukah Hospital, adding that the suspect was also treated at the same hospital for several injuries sustained during the struggle.

Muhamad Rizal noted that the suspect allegedly acted aggressively due to intoxication and a workplace dispute with management.

The case falls under Section 324 of the Penal Code for assault with a dangerous weapon, and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act for lacking valid travel documents.
