KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 9 (Bernama) -- Mimos Bhd will lead the exercise to make the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) curriculum better in order to help graduates become more employable in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0).
After officiating the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) Seminar: Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) at Mimos headquarters today, TVET Empowerment Committee head, Nurul Izzah Anwar, said that there is an urgent need to improve the programme because of the challenges that lie ahead.
The aim of the seminar was to help participants gain a better understanding of government direction, industry expectation and the capacity of institutions with regard to TVET.
She said the government will look at enabling industries and research institutions to participate or lead in the transformation of TVET.
“To remain competitive in Industry 4.0, we need time, investment, cooperation and support from different parties,” said the Permatang Pauh MP
A town hall will be held to discuss the TVET masterplan and budget, although Nurul Izzah informed that the Skills Development Fund Corporation (PTPK) allocation this year has been reduced to RM180 million from RM300 million last year.
She added that more skilled labour is required, yet at the same time, unemployment due to automation and artificial intelligence, as well as a fear of technology, needs to be tackled.
