GEORGE TOWN, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- The Penang state government has advised the people to keep calm and drink more water due to the current haze and hot condition here.
As at 3pm today, two stations on the island recorded Air Pollutant Index (API) readings of 47 and 42 in Balik Pulau and USM respectively, while moderate level API readings were recorded at Seberang Jaya (52) and Perai (54).
In a press statement today, Penang Agriculture, Rural Development and Health Committee chairman Dr Afif Bahardin said there is no reason to panic over the haze and in most cases, the public can continue to safely carry out their outdoor activities.
“For healthy individuals, a few days of exposure to this hazy condition will not normally cause any major health issues other than irritation of the eyes, nose, and throat,” he said.
However, Dr Afif advised the public to stay hydrated and individuals with any chronic and respiratory illnesses must ensure their medication are ready at all times.
