24/09/2018 11:23 PM

KLUANG, Sept 24 (Bernama) --  The implementation of the Thermal Solar Demonstration Plant in the food and beverage and hotel sectors previously, has helped three companies reduce their electricity bills and the use of fossil fuels in their day-to-day operations.

SIRIM Group President and Chief Executive, Dr Ahmad Fadzil Mohamad Hani said the plant, which is the result of cooperation between SIRIM and United Nations Industrial Development Organisation, was first developed at PPNJ Poultry & Meat Sdn Bhd, Machap, here, by the end of 2016 before being commissioned in 2017.

Then it was adapted to the Muslim Kitchen Sdn Bhd in USJ, Selangor; Aameen Sdn Bhd in Teluk Intan, Perak and De Baron Hotel Sdn Bhd in Langkawi, Kedah, which saw two of these companies managing to reduce fossil fuel usage and their electricity bills by more than 50 per cent in their operations.

The De Baron Hotel had managed to make full use of solar energy for hot water supply on one of its floors, Ahmad Fadzil told reporters here today.

He said this at the presentation of the project to PPNJ Poultry & Meat Sdn Bhd which was launched by the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change secretary general Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Azhar Yahaya.
