SUBANG, Oct 2 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is confident that Malaysia will return to the bygone era of being known as an Asian Tiger as new foreign investments start flowing into the country.
His optimism was based on the outcome of recent meetings held with world leaders including foreign investors in the United States (US) and United Kingdom (UK).
“During my 10-day working visit, I addressed the United Nations General Assembly and met many world administrators in the US and UK to clarify the policies of the Pakatan Harapan party that has formed the new government in Malaysia.
"They are satisfied and many promised to come to (Malaysia) to invest," he said on his return after leading a Malaysian delegation to the 73rd United Nations General Assembly from Sept 25-29 and a working visit to the United Kingdom.
Dr Mahathir explained that the government would create more jobs such as government officials, skilled workers and trained engineers to produce sophisticated and state-of-the-art products in an effort to lure more foreign investors.
"I appeal to Malaysians to make the necessary preparations and do not disappoint them (investors). They want to help our country by investing in Malaysia.
“We will work hard and produce quality goods to show the world that Malaysia has indeed recovered and is roaring to return as the Asian Tiger," he said to a thunderous applause from the thousands of well wishers who turned up at the Subang Air Force Base here, despite the heavy downpour, to welcome the premier home.
Dr Mahathir believed and hoped that the Malaysian economy would recover soon and bring with it many benefits for Malaysians as a result of his working visits to the US and UK.
The premier also expressed his appreciation to the UK government and Prime Minister Theresa May for imparting ideas and steps to address corruption in Malaysia.
