MASERU (Lesotho) Oct 16 (Bernama) -- Limkokwing University of Creative Technology plans to extend Malaysia’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to its Lesotho branch campus in producing highly-skilled graduates.
The university’s industry empowerment senior vice-president, Datuk Raja Aznil Raja Hisham said the plan was driven by the successful TVET implementation in their Botswana campus.
"We have proposed the plan to implement TVET to the Lesotho government and we are still waiting for their response.
"The TVET model in education system is important to ensure that youths who are not interested in academics but have talents and skills, are not left behind," he told Malaysian reporters after making a courtesy call on Lesotho Education and Training Minister, Prof Ntoi Rapapa, here, today.
Also present were Limkokwing University’s corporate communications manager Maizura Mahathir, its marketing and recruitment regional director Marcia Kesego Mangadi and deputy registrar, Moroka Hoohlo.
The courtesy call was made in conjunction with the Limkokwing University, Lesotho branch campus graduation day scheduled this Thursday.
More than 800 students from all over the African continent will graduate in various disciplines such as graphic design, fine arts, public relations, architecture and e-commerce at the ceremony.
Raja Aznil said the TVET programme would be offered at the diploma and certificate levels, focusing on skills-driven and practice-based programmes such as performing arts, culinary arts and multimedia.
Limkokwing University, one of the most well-known Malaysian brands for international education in the African region, has four branch campuses in that continent -- Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland and Sierra Leone.
The Accreditation Service for International Colleges (Asic) from the United Kingdom had bestowed Limkokwing University with the Global TVET Model University Award and the university’s founder, Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing with the Transformation Leadership in Global TVET Education Award.
The awards acknowledged Lim's pioneering endeavours to bring industry into education, which has changed the landscape of private education in Malaysia as well as in the 10 countries that house the Limkokwing brand.
Lim has also been appointed as TVET UK International president. TVET UK is an organisation in Britain which enables international customers to access the UK's leading TVET providers and suppliers through a single point of contact.
