Malaysian companies, organisations win GeoInnovation Awards

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- Perbadanan Putrajaya, Public Works Department (JKR) Sabah, Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd, U Mobile Sdn Bhd, the Defence Geospatial Division (BGSP), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) were among the entities named as winners of the GeoInnovation Awards today.

“This year’s GeoInnovation winners are serial innovationists in their respective industries. They comprise men and women adept at driving digital transformation – the people whose work embodies smart city entrepreneurialism,” EsriMalaysia chief executive officer, CS Tan, said at the 2018 Esri Malaysia User Conference in the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

MRT Corp was commended for the first cloud-based GIS deployment in Asia to support the construction of the MRT Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya Line (SSP Line) which comprises 35 stations – 11 underground – targeted to be complete by 2022.

BGSP’s use of geospatial technology to support first-responders during a flood disaster was also praised

By using geospatial technology, BGSP facilitated the collaboration between all agencies involved in the disaster response; their geospatial platform gave them the full picture of all operations happening on the ground.

“We are honoured to have worked with these organisations in their respective journeys towards digital transformation, and are excited to see them create more innovative applications that help run communities and some of our country’s most progressive organisations,” Tan said.
