Sultan of Selangor upset with social media news linking him to ICERD rally

07/12/2018 07:45 PM

SHAH ALAM, Dec 7 (Bernama) -- The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has expressed disappointment over a statement on social media sites and in Whatsapp linking him with the 'thanksgiving’ rally to celebrate the non-ratification of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) at Jalan Raja, here tomorrow.

The Sultan’s private secretary, Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani, said this when referring to the statement that read: “The Sultan of Johor, Regent of Pahang, Sultan of Selangor will be at the ICERD gathering (on) 8-12-2018 with the Malay Bumiputeras.”

In this regard, Mohamad Munir said the Selangor Sultan had declared that parties should not use his name at any gathering organised by political parties or non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

"Such statements can confuse the people," he said in a statement here today. The Sultan of Selangor as a sultan who rules the state of Selangor should not be involved with any rally organised by any party.”

He said that Sultan Sharafuddin reminded the people not to be influenced by such false news.
