KUANTAN, 26 Jan (Bernama) – The Pahang Fire and Rescue Department has mounted a search and rescue (S&R) operation for a Finnish man who went missing since last Tuesday on Tioman Island.
Its director, Mohd Sani Harul said the S&R operation was mounted at 3.45 pm today following a missing person report on Nikitin Aleksis Elis Valtteri, 20, which was lodged by a waiter of a resort on the island.
He said the Finnish man had spend the night at the waiter’s home after befriending the latter last Monday.
"He (victim) was said to have asked for the direction to a waterfall in Kampung Asah, Mukut, on the island.
“The following day (Tuesday), the waiter returned home from work and found the Finnish man gone, but his personal items and belonging were still in the house,” he told reporters here today.
He said the waiter lodged a missing person report on the Finnish man at the Tioman police station at 1.55 pm today.
