Datuk Mohamad Mat Yusop is acting N. Sembilan Police Chief

SEREMBAN, Feb 1 (Bernama) -- Negeri Sembilan deputy police chief Datuk Mohamad Mat Yusop wiil head the Negeri Sembilan police contingent as acting state police chief effective today.

He took over the duties from Datuk Noor Azam Jamaludin, who has been transferred to Selangor as the state police chief, effective Feb 4.

The handing over of duties ceremony was held at the Negeri sembilan police contingent headquarters here and was witnessed by Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh.

At the function, Noor Azam’s wife, Datin Roshafiza Abd Halim, also handed-over the duties of the chairman of the state’s Family Police Association (PERKEP) to Mohamad’s wife, Datin Norlela Idris.

Noor Azam, who was  Negeri Sembilan police chief since July 13, 2017, said the state’s crime index last year recorded a drop of 7.4 per cent compared to 2017 and attributed it to the strong support from the community.

“Hence, programmes involving collaboration between the police and community such as community policing such as Oscar, neighbourhood watch, the Voluntary Patrolling Schemes (SRS) and conventional policing should be enhanced for the well-being of the people.

“The good relations between the police and the community has given us many benefits , with the local community providing information, the police are able to respond fast,” he added.

He also expressed his gratitude to all parties for their cooperation during his tenure as the Negeri Sembilan police chief.

“I also wish to express my appreciation to media practitioners in the state for helping to disseminate  information and awareness on crime prevention to the community,” he said.
