KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 26 (Bernama) -- Sabah has been picked for promotion a second time as Malaysia’s ‘Favourite Destination’ at the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Fair in Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), from March 15 to 17.
Sabah Tourism Board (STB) deputy general manager, Noredah Othman, said the ‘Cuti-Cuti Tawau’ initiative will highlight tourism in the east of Sabah to help attract four million domestic and international tourists.
“The east coast of Sabah -- mainly Tawau, Semporna, Lahad Datu and Sandakan -- has many unique nature and heritage attractions.
“There is an island off Lahad Datu, on the easternmost point of Malaysia, where you can see the ‘first sunrise’ in the country,” she said at a press conference in MATTA headquarters today.
STB will have 16 booths to promote local tourism products ranging from heritage and culture, to scenic island visits which are top-notch and good value.
MATTA honorary secretary-general, Nigel Wong, said the tourist increase is proof the state is one of the top destinations in Malaysia and well-recognised by international markets.
