PORT DICKSON, March 9 (Bernama) -- The Lexis Hotel Group and Platinum Charters initiated a nature, forest and raptor conservation awareness campaign today to coincide with the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) 20th Raptor Watch 2019.
The one-day event saw teachers and 22 students from 11 schools around Port Dickson welcomed to Lexis Hibiscus Hotel and then setting off from Hibiscus Jetty on a cruise to Tanjung Tuan, Alor Gajah for the event proper.
MNS representative, Maichal Isthyben, said the activity encourages people to be more proactive in protecting the environment.
Also present were Undang Luak Johol, Datuk Muhammed Abdullah, Sri Tanjung assemblyman, M. Ravi and Lexis Hibiscus Port Dickson general manager, Simon Tan.
Tan said the main aim of the programme was to raise awareness and educate the community.
“Natural resources are diminishing. Now is the right time for us to educate the young on nature conservation,” he said.
Tan said tourism is a key contributor to the economy and Lexis Hotel Group will make sure the forest reserve of Tanjung Tuan is protected and will remain for many years to come.
"Although the programme was created for students, perhaps it could be turned into a tourism activity by the Lexis Hotel Group and other hotels in Port Dickson,” said Ravi, who is also Negeri Sembilan Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker.
