LANGKAWI, March 29 (Bernama) -- HIMPUN, an artisanal market held in conjunction with the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace exhibition 2019 (LIMA’19), targets to achieve sales of RM100,000 in sales.
The market is a joint initiative between Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) and the Malaysia Design Development Centre (DDEC) to showcase the best local brands in fashion, handicraft, food and beauty products from small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
As of March 28, the 11 SMEs selected to participate in the market had achieved RM80,000 in sales, said Malaysia Airports Commercial Services senior general manager, Mohammad Nazli Abdul Aziz.
He said HIMPUN was previously held at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport in September last year as a platform to introduce local SME products to international customers.
"We chose products which are suitable and emphasised on attractive packaging to attract international customers at the airport.
“MAHB hopes the products will give a ‘sense of Malaysia’ for guests and tourists at Malaysian airports, in line with our strategy to transform the airport from merely being a transportation hub to a lifestyle destination,” he added.
Speaking to Bernama after accompanying Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Yusof on his visit to the HIMPUN market here yesterday, Mohammad Nazli said the SMEs would also have an opportunity to promote their products at a special outlet at the airport.
He added that MAHB also planned to expand the HIMPUN initiative to the airports in Sabah and Sarawak.
Meanwhile, during his visit, Mohd Redzuan expressed hope that HIMPUN would be able to open up more opportunities for local SMEs to promote their products at international airports.
