PEKAN, May 23 (Bernama) — Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah arrived at Istana Abu Bakar, Pekan at 10.40 this morning for the royal burial of Almarhum Paduka Ayahanda Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al Musta’in Billah.
When his eyes rested on the casket containing the remains of his beloved father, Almarhum Paduka Ayahanda Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah, Sultan Abdullah appeared teary-eyed.
Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad arrived at Istana Abu Bakar not long after the King, at 11.05am, to pay his last respects to Almarhum Sultan Ahmad Shah.
The late sultan, who ruled the state of Pahang for 45 years, won the hearts of people through his humility and compassion, particularly when his subjects were going through rough times.
He was made Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Sept 21, 1975, and later became Malaysia’s seventh King from April 26, 1979 to April 25, 1984.
