7,012 road accidents recorded nationwide during four days of Ops Selamat

KUALA LUMPUR, June 2 (Bernama) -- About 7,012 road accidents involving 10,042 vehicles have been reported nationwide during the first four days of Ops Selamat 15/2019 in conjunction with Aidilfitri which was launched on Wednesday.

A total of 69 people were killed in road accidents during the period.

Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) Corporate Communications head Datuk Asmawati Ahmad said Selangor recorded the highest number of accidents, namely 2,154 cases, followed by Johor (1,068 cases), Kuala Lumpur (989 cases) and Penang (616 cases).

“A total of 1,238 operations were conducted nationwide with 96,127 summonses issued for various offences,” she said in a statement here today.

She said 158 burglary cases relating to homes and premises, were recorded within the four days.

Ops Selamat 15/2019 which is being conducted from Wednesday until June 12 focuses on six major offences, namely driving in the emergency lane, overtaking on double lines, using mobile phones while driving, jumping the queue, speeding and not obeying traffic lights.
