PUTRAJAYA, July 10 (Bernama) -- Six youths will represent Malaysia at the World Championship of Performing Arts (WCOPA) 2019 competition which is participated by 72 countries in Long Beach, California, USA, from July 12 to 21.
Malaysia will be represented by Melissa Anne Leo Jude, 21; Daphne Emerald, 13; Eylia Eyre Guntabid, 17; Tengku Nur Fazlin Irana Tengku Zainul Hisham, 16; who will compete in the vocal category, while Timothy Leong Yew Jo, 19, and Dhestiansia Narendra Rageswara, 12, will compete in the dance event.
At a ceremony to hand-over the Jalur Gemilang to the contingent at his ministry here today, Art and Culture Tourism Minister Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi, said he was confident that the participants are up for the challenge and can bring glory to the country.
"It is gratifying that their participation is on their own initiative including seeking sponsors to participate in the competition that is costly, we are very proud of their commitment to carry the country's name," he said.
It is the country’s 14th participation in the competition which is the 'Olympics' of performing arts since 2005.
