Malaysian firms rake in RM677.8 mln sales at CAEXPO 2019

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 -- Sales at the Malaysian Pavilion at the 16th China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO 2019) in Nanning, China rose six per cent to RM677.8 million from RM639.66 million last year, says the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE).

It said in a statement today that sales generated during the four-day event exceeded the target of RM640 million.

This year, the food and beverages cluster made a strong impact with sales of RM387.20 million (up from RM218.91 million at CAEXPO 2018), followed by the health and wellness cluster with sales of RM160.68 million, lifestyle (RM129.88 million) and services (RM0.05 million).

Seven memoranda of understanding worth RM31.71 million were signed between Malaysian companies and Chinese importers, including for durian, healthcare and baby care products.

The good sales performance reported by Malaysian companies shows the good potential and market acceptance of Malaysian products such as durian-based products, cooking pastes, coffee, biscuits, baby products and toothpaste, MATRADE said, adding 167 companies, including 151 small and medium enterprises, participated.

The trade promotion agency also organised some 1,000 business matching sessions at the expo between Malaysian companies and Chinese partners.

The Malaysian Pavilion won two awards from the organisers -- “Best Trade and Economy Outcome”, and “Best Trade Visitor Organiser”. 

CAEXPO has been held annually in Nanning since 2004, with next year’s event to take place on Sept 18-21.
