MTDC, CADS COLLABORATE TO TRAIN TALENTS FOR INDUSTRY 4.0

14/11/2019 02:29 PM

SERDANG, Nov 14 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) is collaborating with the Center of Applied Data Science (CADS) on areas of data science, analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) skills and specialisations.

MTDC’s chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Norhalim Yunus said the cooperation would also promote education and provide professional training and module development in the related field.

“The main recipient of this partnership will be new graduates from local universities and technopreneurs, where they will have the opportunity to embrace the life-long learning and upskilling or reskilling that is important as they enter into the Industry 4.0 (I4.0) workforce,” he told reporters after signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CADS here, today.

To kickstart the collaboration, 18 participants from the Education Ministry (MOE) - MTDC Graduate Employability (GE) I4.0 Data Science programme have been undergoing a 14 modules programme conducted by CADS.

The three-month programme which will end this December involved intensive data analytics training, mentorship and industry attachment.

The 18 participants are part of the 300 graduates in the MOE-MTDC GE I1.40 (where they are placed in companies nurtured by MTDC).

Besides that, the 18 participants will also undergo Industry Speed Dating on-site job interview with government-linked companies and multi-national companies (MNCs).

“This collaboration will mark another milestone for MTDC as we provide the relevant training via Technopreneur Training Academy (TENTRA) as part of our efforts to upskill our graduates and workforce to be I4.0 ready,” said Norhalim.

TENTRA nurtures its graduates to be future data science, data analysts, data engineers, business data engineers and other related jobs.

CADS founder and CEO Sharala Axryd said the initiative through its Data Star programme will also provide data science expertise for MTDC for them to become mentors and conduct data science analytics and AI-related workshop.

“Our Data Star participants have been successfully placed at renowned Malaysian companies, MNCs and even overseas across oil and gas, financial services, telecommunications and many other industries,” said Sharala.

Since launching the programme in 2017, CADS has received 1,253 application in eight cohorts, where 231 from the Data Star alumni have been upskilled for the future to unlock values within the data-driven organisation, she said.

Established in October 2015, CADS is ASEAN’s first and only one-stop platform and centre of excellence for data science in the ASEAN region to empower the next generation of data professionals.
