LANGKAWI, Jan 6 -- Thirty local and foreign teams have confirmed their participations in the 2020 Royal Langkawi International Regatta (RLIR) championship, which will take place from tomorrow untill Jan 11.
Royal Langkawi Yacht Club (RLYC) general manager Tayfun Koksal said, apart from Malaysia, the 12 teams competing in the yacht race were from Netherlands, China, Britain, Denmark, Austria, Australia, Russia, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, United States and United Kingdom.
"Initially, we received many entries, but due to certain reasons, only 30 teams will compete in the 2020 RLIR tomorrow. However, we are still pleased with the response.
"All the teams have also begun their training sessions this morning, and the good wind and weather conditions will help the competing teams in the championsip," he told a press conference here today.
2020 RLIR, organised by RLYC, will feature seven categories or classes, namely Racing, IRC 1, IRC 2, Sportboat, Cruising, Multihull and White Sail.
Meanwhile, RLYC executive director Datuk Azlan Abdullah said he hoped this year's RLIR would be a good experience for the participants as it was the first programme held in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2020 (VM2020).
