GEORGE TOWN, Jan 15 -- Two businessmen pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here today on charges of robbing a security company employee of RM231,879.15 while armed with a pistol in December last year.
According to the charge sheet, K. Darmendran, 37, and his colleague R. Nagendran, 21, were charged with robbing SRT-EON Security Service Sdn Bhd of RM231,879.15 from its security employee Abdul Latif Shabudin while armed with a pistol.
They were accused of committing the offence in front of Alliance Bank, Jalan Tun Dr Awang near Masjid Sungai Kecil here at 10.51 am on Dec 16 under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum of 20 years jail and whipping upon conviction.
Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Harith Prakash did not offer bail on the grounds that the accused may approach the victim if they were on bail, however counsel A. Chandra Segaran Achannah who represented both accused appealed for bail and said both of his clients did not threaten the victim.
Judge Norsalha Hamzah later allowed bail for each accused at RM15,00 in one surety with an addition condition of reporting to the police station on the first of every month.
Norsalha also gave another condition that the accused was prohibited from approaching the victim of the case and set Feb 20 for mention.
