MOFA monitoring aftermath of Turkey earthquake

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 26 -- Ministry of Foreign Affairs is closely monitoring developments following a 6.7 magnitude earthquake in Elazig And Malatya Provinces, Turkey on Jan 24 although there had been no report of any Malaysians affected by the earthquake.

In a statement today, the ministry said according to local authorities, the earthquake, located at approximately 565 km from Ankara, had so far claimed 29 lives, with more than 1,200 injured.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to convey its sympathy to the government and the people of Turkey, particularly to those who were affected by the earthquake.

"We are with the people of Turkey during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims of the devastating earthquake," it added.
