Malaysia, Poland agree there are potential fields to be jointly explored

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 21 -- Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Kamarudin Jaffar paid a courtesy call on his Polish counterpart Marcin Przydacz in Warsaw on Feb 18.

According to a Foreign Ministry statement on Sunday, the two leaders also discussed various matters affecting bilateral relations between Malaysia and Poland mainly involving the economic sector, trade, investment, higher education, tourism and halal industries.

At the same time, both sides also agreed that there are many potential areas to be explored jointly such as cyber security, agriculture and green technology.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for both sides to touch on regional and international issues such as the role of ASEAN and the European Union, the latest developments in Afghanistan, Myanmar, Palestine as well as the South China Sea issue.

He also took note of his counterpart’s views on current developments in Ukraine, added the statement.

Kamarudin also had the opportunity to meet the Deputy Marshal of the Polish Senate Gabriela Morawska-Stanecka on Feb 17.

During the meeting, both sides agreed that relations between the members of the Malaysian and Polish Parliaments could be enhanced to further encourage the exchange of information and discussions on various matters of mutual interest.

Malaysia and Poland have good and friendly bilateral relations.

The value of bilateral trade between the two countries increased by 16.67 per cent in 2021 with a turnover of RM3.78 billion.

Malaysia's exports to Poland were worth RM2.77 billion while total imports were RM1.01 billion.

Malaysia is Poland's second largest trading partner among ASEAN member countries.

The two countries established diplomatic relations on June 21, 1971 and have celebrated the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2021.

Kamaruddin is currently on a working visit to the Czech Republic, Austria, Poland and France from Feb 13 to 23.
