DUNGUN, March 6 -- The two-day ‘Pasar Prihatin Wilayah Kemajuan Terengganu Tengah’  (PASKET), a Keluarga Malaysia sales programme organised by the Central Terengganu Development Authority (Ketengah) which started yesterday has attracted more than 7,000 visitors.

Ketengah general manager Tengku Nadzri Tengku Musa said the programme has successfully achieved its main objective of assisting the low-income group in rural areas to get essential goods at lower prices than usual.

As such, he said the programme will be held in 16 other locations in three districts in the Ketengah region starting this month until next July.

“The programme not only benefits consumers but also generates the economies of local entrepreneurs who were severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and the flood disaster.

“Despite the heavy rain, the programme recorded RM120,000 in sales yesterday and we estimate the figure will be more than double today based on visitor attendance data,” he said after launching PASKET 2022 at the Rural Community Centre, Bandar Al Muktafil Billah Shah today.

Also present were the Bukit Besi assemblyman Roslee Daud and Terengganu Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry deputy director Nor Azmi Lamisza.

At the event, Tengku Nazri also handed over assistance to 118 Ketengah entrepreneurs who were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, involving an allocation of RM335,000.

Meanwhile, he said a sum of RM3 million has been allocated to develop tourism infrastructure in the Ketengah region.

“The Ketengah region has 43 tourist attractions such as Tasik Kenyir, Bukit Besi town and so on.

“So far, the income generated through the tourism sector is only around 30 per cent. So, we will develop more potential areas to generate more income for Ketengah which will eventually be returned to the people,” he said.
